5 Autumn Tips for Dogs and Cats

There are many actions you can take to keep your furry loved ones safe and healthy during the fall season.

Keep an eye out for ticks. If your dog or cat is playing in the leaves, or you take them for a walk in the woods, always check them afterwards to make sure there aren’t any suspicious bugs hanging around. It’s always a good idea to make sure your pet either has a flea and tick collar or some other type of flea and tick prevention.

Always be aware of what your pet munches on while outside! Toxic mushrooms start growing in Autumn, and many animals think they’re great for food. Keep them away from any types of mushrooms because it’s hard to tell if they’re poisonous or not.

Watch out for snakes! Their hibernation begins in the fall, when they’re the most likely to bite. To keep your pet safe, make sure to always be cautious of the venomous creatures lurking around your area. This will save your beloved animal a lot of pain and irritation.

Dogs and cats are like humans in the fact that we can all get the flu! Dogs and cat’s immune systems can be caught off guard due to temperatures dropping in the fall. Make sure your pets are up to date on all of their vaccinations so they can’t get sick.

Be careful where you put the antifreeze. Dogs and cats are extremely likely to eat this toxic chemical that many owners use without even thinking about it. Death of pets is very common because they are drawn to the sweet, food-like scent of it and may end up eating it. If there is any antifreeze where you normally let your pet roam around, make sure to keep an eye on them.
